Perioperative Protection from Infections

While patients may envision a hospital or healthcare facility as the epitome of a sterile environment, the fact of the matter is that pathogens exist throughout these setting and pose a real risk to patients and staff. Surgical site infections [SSIs], which are post-surgery infections that occur on or in the body where the surgery took place, affect between one to three out of every 100 surgery patients.
